Magnitude7 is a seed programme (brought to you by Mahuki, Te Papa Tongarewa) designed to inspire the next generation of innovators that possess the ability to see to the next level. I was engaged to develop an evocative identity for Mag7 celebrating journey and discovery.
Extending the Magnitude7 brand presence I previously created for Mahuki, the request came to transform this complex identity piece to work for application to t shirts and other merchandise.
While the concept and idea of the original hero image was already nailed and working beautifully, the approach had to be reworked for it to live as a single colour print. Every detail had to be considered and carefully balanced to ensure the essence of the original remained while making it easy to connect the two looks as being under the same brand banner.
Through a variety of techniques ranging from hand-sketching, tracing, and converting various elements into half-tone assets the image came together seamlessly. A pleasing level of detail was able to be transferred through this approach and it made for a striking piece to layer into the Magnitude7 brand.
Full black and white version of the design that would provide the basis for silk screens – enabling the opportunity for numerous colour applications on a variety of coloured textiles.
